Unlike a standard group tour, this private experience gives you the freedom to explore the Castle of Chios at your own pace. Wander through its atmospheric streets, uncover hidden corners, admire remarkable monuments and enjoy fascinating stories that bring centuries of history to life. Today, the Castle remains a vibrant neighbourhood where people still live within its historic walls, making it one of Greece’s most unique cultural landmarks.
Have you ever wondered what life was like inside a living medieval fortress?
With your licensed guide, every street, monument and gateway reveals another chapter of the Castle’s rich past. Ask questions, pause whenever you wish and enjoy a more personal and immersive experience as you discover the Castle of Chios as few travellers ever do.
Some of the Castle’s most fascinating stories aren’t found on its grand monuments, but hidden in the details that many visitors simply walk past. A private tour gives you the time to slow down, explore beyond the obvious and discover the architectural features, symbols and local stories that bring this medieval settlement to life.
Step beyond the ancient walls of the Castle of Chios and journey through nearly a thousand years of history as you explore one of the Mediterranean’s few living medieval settlements.
Wander through atmospheric alleyways, from the mysterious Dark Prison and the historic Giustiniani Palace to the restored Ottoman Baths and the sea walls overlooking the Aegean. Along the way, discover remarkable monuments, hidden corners and the fascinating stories that reveal how Byzantine, Genoese, Venetian and Ottoman influences shaped the Castle through the centuries.
Whether you’re visiting Chios for the first time or returning to explore its rich heritage in greater depth, this journey offers a memorable insight into the island’s remarkable past.
The tour takes place even in light rain. However, in the event of severe weather (heavy rain, snow, strong winds etc.), it will be rescheduled for the safety of all participants.
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the starting time.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and sun protection (sunglasses, hats, sunscreen), especially during the hot summer months.
We recommend bringing water, and you’re welcome to carry your coffee or drink while enjoying the walk.
Feel free to capture the moments of the tour and share your experience on social media with #OhMyGuide! — we’d love to see it through your eyes!
The tour follows a relaxed walking route through the Castle of Chios. While most of the route is relatively flat, some areas feature uneven cobblestone streets and historic stone surfaces, which may present challenges for wheelchairs and visitors with limited mobility.
Families with strollers are welcome, though assistance may be helpful in certain sections.
